| ABOUT SENIOR HAND Wayne Mitchell Patten of Exeter, New Hampshire founded Senior Hand in 1 990. Patten, age 50 at that time and retiring from a career as a real estate developer, returned to school to study gerontology. His intent was to build and operate a nursing home in the New Hampshire Seacoast area. Although he proved to be the top student in his class, Wayne became disenchanted with his nursing home idea. He developed a vision of a nursing home as a place limiting the elderly - a punishment for no crime committed. Despite the "Patient Rights" laws, nursing home residents seem unable to do what they please when they want. Often one cannot even go for a healthy walk when they please. People who contributed for many years are no longer able to do as they desire - when they desire. Wayne Patten decided he would give seniors a helping hand with avoiding nursing homes. Thus, Senior Hand - a caring in-home assisted living service. | |
